Education, Children and Young People

The Arts Service delivers a comprehensive Arts-in-Schools Programme in South and South West Donegal through the annual Donegal Bay and Blue Stacks Festival and Carnival Ballyshannon project.  This has become a staple of the primary school calendar in South and South West Donegal for the past 13 years with almost 800 students participating in the programme in 2013. In addition, the Arts Service partners regularly with Poetry Ireland to support the delivery a creative writing service in primary schools.

The Arts Service also provides direct revenue and programme funding support to a wide range of local arts organisations who in turn provide art services to young people, in both in-school and out-of-school environments.  Such organizations include Artlink, Balor Developmental Community Arts, An Gailearaí, Foróige LOFT Youth Café and Inishowen Carnival Group.

The Service also provides advice and assistance to individual schools when requested, with the proviso that a creative collaboration between professional artists and students is central to the projects proposed.

Teachers, young people, youth or community leaders who may wish to discuss how the Arts Service might be of assistance in helping to further their particular arts educational objectives, may do so by contacting the Arts Office directly.
